Bounding blocking probabilities and throughput in queueing networks with buffer capacity constraints

چکیده
We propose a new technique for upper and lower bounding the throughput and blocking probabilities in queueing networks with buuer capacity constraints, i.e, some buuers in the network have nite capacity. By studying the evolution of multinomials of the state of the system in its assumed steady state, we obtain constraints on the possible behavior of the system. Using these constraints, we obtain linear programs whose values upper and lower bound the performance measures of interest, namely throughputs or blocking probabilities. The main advantages of this new technique are that the computational complexity does not increase with the size of the nite buuers and that the technique is applicable to systems in which some buuers have innnite capacity. The technique is demonstrated on examples taken from both manufacturing systems and communication networks. As a special case, for the M/M/s/s queue, we establish the asymptotic exactness of the bounds, i.e, that the bounds on the blocking probability asymptotically approach the exact value as the degree of the multinomials considered is increased to innnity.

متن کاملDuality and Equivalencies in Closed Tandem Queueing Networks
Equivalence relations between closed tandem queueing networks are established. Four types of models are under consideration: single-server infinite-capacity buffer queues, infinite-server queues with resequencing, single-server unit-capacity buffer queues with blocking before service, and single-server unit-capacity buffer queues with blocking after service. Using a customer/server duality we s...
متن کاملClosed queueing networks with finite capacity queues: approximate analysis
Queueing networks with finite capacity queues and blocking are applied to model systems with finite resources and population constraints, such as computer and communication systems, as well as traffic, production and manufacturing systems. Various blocking types can be defined to represent different system behaviors. When a customer attempts to enter a full capacity queue blocking occurs. The a...
متن کاملComputational analysis of (MAP1, MAP2)/(PH1, PH2)/N queues with finite buffer in wireless cellular networks
This paper studies a queueing model with the finite buffer of capacity K in wireless cellular networks, which has two types of arriving calls—handoff and originating calls, both of which follow the Markov arriving process with different rates. The channel holding times of the two types of calls follow different phase-type distributions. Firstly, the joint distribution of two queue lengths is de...
متن کاملA Two-Threshold Guard Channel Scheme for Minimizing Blocking Probability in Communication Networks
In this paper, we consider the call admission problem in cellular network with two classes of voice users. In the first part of paper, we introduce a two-threshold guard channel policy and study its limiting behavior under the stationary traffic. Then we give an algorithm for finding the optimal number of guard channels. In the second part of this paper, we give an algorithm, which minimizes th...
